As I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless–like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere.

Ecclesiastes 2:11 (New Living Translation)

Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done
and what I had toiled to achieve,
everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;
nothing was gained under the sun.

Ecclesiastes 2:11 (New International Version)

Then I took a good look at everything I’d done, looked at all the sweat and hard work. But when I looked, I saw nothing but smoke. Smoke and spitting into the wind. There was nothing to any of it. Nothing.

Ecclesiastes 2:11 (The Message)

I praise God for what he has promised.
I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?
What can mere mortals do to me?

Psalm 56:4 (New Living Translation)

In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I will not be afraid.
What can mortal man do to me?

Psalm 56:4 (New International Version)

I’m proud to praise God;
fearless now, I trust in God.
What can mere mortals do?

Psalm 56:4 (The Message)
