Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.

Philippians 2:6-7 (New Living Translation)

Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.

Philippians 2:6-7 (New International Version)

He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Hebrews 13:8 (New Living Translation)

Hebrews 13:8 (New International Version)

For Jesus doesn’t change—yesterday, today, tomorrow, he’s always totally himself.
