Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (New Living Translation)

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (New International Version)

Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (The Message)

The three commands of 1 Thess. 5:16-18 sound very good, and are very positive, but the more I think about them, the more I realize how much of a challenge they are to obey as a Christian. The main requirement of the three commands is to perform them continually, but, at best, I am only able to manage that at times – and really need help from the Lord with that.
