Don’t Worry
So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
Matthew 6:34 (New Living Translation)
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 6:34 (New King James Version)
Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
Matthew 6:34 (The Message)
Planning for tomorrow is time well spent; worrying about tomorrow is time wasted. Worriers are consumed by fear and find it difficult to trust God. They let their plans interfere with their relationship with God. Don’t let worries about tomorrow affect your relationship with God today.
Encouragement
Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace.
2 Corinthians 4:16 (The Message)
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16 (New International Version)
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.
2 Corinthians 4:16 (New Living Translation)
Even though our life may seem to be falling apart, God is always there and working in us every day.
Worldly Cares
Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.
1 Timothy 6:6-8 (New Living Translation)
Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
1 Timothy 6:6-8 (New King James Version)
A devout life does bring wealth, but it’s the rich simplicity of being yourself before God. Since we entered the world penniless and will leave it penniless, if we have bread on the table and shoes on our feet, that’s enough.
1 Timothy 6:6-8 (The Message)
Sharing
Mercy to the needy is a loan to God, and God pays back those loans in full.
Proverbs 19:17 (The Message)
He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, And He will pay back what he has given.
Proverbs 19:17 (New King James Version)
If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord—and he will repay you!
Proverbs 19:17 (New Living Translation)
This is similar to the giving a cup of cold water blessing mentioned a couple of days ago. If we show mercy and generosity to the poor and needy, God will pay us back in full and then some. So see what you can do to help someone in need today.
Money and Possessions
No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Matthew 6:24 (New Living Translation)
No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
Matthew 6:24 (New International Version)
You can’t worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you’ll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can’t worship God and Money both.
Matthew 6:24 (The Message)
We should not be fascinated with our possessions, lest they possess us. This means we may have to do some cutting back if our possessions are becoming too important to us. Jesus is calling for a decision that allows us to live contentedly with whatever we have because we have chosen what is eternal and lasting.
